~ SP11 Contest #2 ~

1. What is the one knitting accessory you could not live without?
if needles count, my circs ~ but the one accessory I couldn't live without is my "folding scissors." I use them for everything and they fit in my pocket nicely. ;D
2. If you're heading on vacation, do you take knitting with you? If so, how much and what type of project?
now I do but before I only took a book and my crochet or cross-stitch. recently, I've taken dishcloths and small projects.
3. Where have you travelled to that you'd consider your favorite spot?
the beach ~ but starbucks if you mean locally.
4. What is your favorite knitting book at the moment? Do you own it?
at knits end by yarn harlot ~ no I don't own it.
5. Do you listen to podcasts? Which is your favorite(s)?
no.
6. If you could only knit with 1 color for the rest of your life, what color would that be?
hmm, red ~ lots of red. ;D
7. If you were far into a project and then noticed a mistake near the beginning what would you do?
depends on the project ~ since I've only done small ones, I've ripped them back.
8. Where is the most unsual spot you've ever knit?
I'm not sure any spot is unusual anymore ~ my most unusual spots were the golf tournaments and rock concerts. :D

Something new....

in preparation for making my Mirepoix Bodice, I have agreed to work on a simplified fair isle pattern. Now fair isle is not for the faint at heart nor is it really for a beginning knitter. I have advanced from a beginning to an advanced beginner but I am also one who is willing to take a challenge and run with it. So when the kal for this lovely sweater came along I was all for it because its so beautiful. However, I've never done fair isle and my wonderful new knitting mentor thought I'd like trying something simpler and to practice sweater making while I'm at it. I agreed w/her wisdom and as we were looking for substitute yarn for the sweater, we began looking for something to make in the interim ~ the kal begins in October. We discussed the "tomato" and I have done a swatch using cascade sierra and got my gauge w/8s instead of 7s (tight knitter syndrome). I've been looking for more of the lovely color of this yarn so that I could begin when I received my copy of Creative Knitting in the mail. In this issue, is a simplified fair isle sweater called "color play vest" using worst weight yarn. I pulled out several skeins of TLC essentials and some Caron Simply Soft to determine which would work. The actually vest was made with the Caron but I didn't have enough colors to make one that would be interesting to wear. LOL

Today, with Riley's help, have selected my 6 colors and created a swatch. The pattern called for 8s but I didn't get gauge with those and moved up to 10s. I did and began work. I'm pleased to say it is a lot of fun. I'll take a pic in the morning its too dark in here for you to see it clearly. I've been working on the left front of the vest instead of starting with the back ~ I was concerned that I wouldn't like it so didn't want to waste too much time or yarn on it. I'm pleased to say, I do like it very much and it looks very nice, well except for the first row of color change where I held the yarn abit too tight. I've managed to loosen it as much as possible so hopefully it will not be too obvious or create a fitting issue. Here is a pic from the article.

I am excited because it really is like working a cross-stitch project using yarn. I've only done needlepoint once but cross-stitch I love just as much as crocheting, I love reading the charts and figuring out how to get the picture on the blank cloth that was on the cover. I love puzzles too which is why I was intrigue by making the Mirepoix. It looks like a larger cross-stitch pattern and jigsaw puzzle all in one. ;D

Overall, its be a good day though it didn't end as I'd hope. Which is why I'm glad I'm enjoying my new project. We were set to go to a free concert this evening to hear the group "Leeland" but we didn't get to go nor to the knit night. I was feeling abit bummed because I have been looking forward to this all summer but I'm getting better as I work on the sweater. My peds are coming along lovely too ~ I'm 6 rows from finishing the heel flap of the 2nd one.

I fixed dinner but it was something new too. I've never made this before but it was a hit. I took some fancy macaroni noodles ~ these were ones purchased at Williams Sonoma ~ and added a can of diced tomatoes, ground turkey and various seasons. I served it with green beans. Even my picky eater had seconds though I ended up w/her tomatoes ~ she doesn't eat them. ;D

I'm off now to return to my knitting and listening to audio books. I've finished Friends, Lovers, Chocolate by Alexander McCall Smith and almost done with The Mummy Case by Elizabeth Peters. I have a love/hate relationship with the heroine's of both books series. I'm enjoying it very much. More tomorrow, must update my file on simplifying my cleaning practices and my lovely clean kitchen ~ especially the sink. ;D

~ Vegan Pal 2 Contest #1 ~ pt 2

~ Yarn Review ~
Louet Euroflax
Sport Wt.
2.75-3.5 mm needles (2-4 US)
6 sts per inch
1300 yds/lb
100% Wet Spun Linen
~ I've never used linen before and was looking forward to it. I received this yarn as a gift in a No Sheep Swap and in my favorite color. After using it, I wouldn't say it is my favorite vegan yarn but I do love the finished product. The knitted items are very soft and squishy. Working with the yarn takes some getting use to. It is a single ply yarn which I wasn't aware of until after struggling w/it for about a week. After getting some input from some other knitters discovered that what I was experiencing with the yarn was typical and this made it a much better knit. The yarn is uneven ~ it can be thin then thick then thin again. It is abit pricy at about $19 a skein. The linen will make lovely garments but I think I'd rather sew with linen than knit with it. I'm not sure if I will be using it again anytime soon but would love to see my friend's curtains once he has been able to acquire the needed skeins to make them. The cost is delaying his project too.

~ Vegan Pal 2 Contest #1 ~

We have our first contest ~ Pic of knitting in public and/or write a yarn review. I was going to do the yarn review but haven't taken the time to write one. Maybe later. Here are 2 pics of knitting in public. Enjoy!

photo woes cont'd....

earlier I thought I would have to write a totally different post than what will follow. It went something like this:
"as if it couldn't get any worse.....but it has. all the pictures are now gone from the camera. I have no pics. ;(*

I'm so glad to report that I don't have to start this post like that nor do I have to be sad any longer. It appears that my camera and its batteries were the problem. Most of the pics are gone that were on the camera but since we had uploaded those to the computer it was ok. I'm not sure what happened but the camera and software worked together and rebooted my camera with the pics that hadn't been loaded. Yeah me! So here are the pics I wanted to share and I'll try to describe them. ;D

~ LB Wool Ease (1 sk used)

photo woes....

my camera and computer have decided not to be friends anymore. Today is our update day for the KAL n KAL which means you are to include progress pics. Well, those are stuck on my camera waiting to be freed. I've got a few pics but they don't really help me. Whats a girl to do?! I've tried rebooting my computer but to no avail. I finally went to the website and asked for help. Now we wait. I can't even load the software on the new computer because....Sk8Chick doesn't know where the cd is. Yikes! The new software requires Windows 2000/XP/Vista, which of course I don't have and now will probably have to get in order to be apart of the "in" crowd again.

Ok, no more whining ~ I do have a few pics that were done yesterday that I can share. That should help a bit. I must go to flickr to get them so that will be another post maybe tomorrow when I have more time and more energy. I'm off to knit more on my ped, listen to "Friends, Lovers, Chocolate" and read Ravelry.

Have a good one!

Whats up!

alot in my corner of the world. I'm knitting lovely "not peds" again and loving the colorway even though I didn't think I would. I pretended to be the yarn harlot last night and took pictures of my lovely first ped in them. ;D I'm very tired but I wanted to post since its been a bit since I did. Well, not really but I thought you guys might miss me or something. I got my ravelry invite and I've been setting that up but I stayed up way too late and I'm now very sleepy. Funny thing, I joined a group over there called the "midnight knitters" and I don't feel like staying up to talk, write or knit. hmm, must be that missed nap. I'll update more at least by friday and load those pics so you can see my handiwork ~ I'm working the foot section of the first ped now ~ it does go pretty quickly and I'm looking forward to wearing these very much ~ they are looking very fallish ~ Thx "I love sock yarn" swap partner. :D

Good night!

~ Vegan Pal 2 Questionaire ~

Welcome and thank you VP2 Pal, I look forward to getting to know you.

What is/are your craft(s), & how long have you been doing it/them?
Crocheting ~ 30+yrs, Knitting ~ consistently for 6mos, Cross-stitch, Wreath making, Sewing and various other handicrafts for over 20yrs or so.

Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
Veg-friendly w/a dh who is moving toward being vegetarian again.

Is this your first swap, or have you done previous swaps before? What makes a swap enjoyable for you?
No, this is not my first swap, I've done several and love doing them. The the most enjoyable part is putting together something special for someone else.

What is/are your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike any color(s)?
Reds, no dislikes that I know of.

Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods, fibers or cigarette smoke)?
Some cat dander, cigarette smoke and hazelnut.

Do you have any companion animals? If so, name(s) and type(s)?*
Yes, his name is Dude Jr but he is called "Poochie". He is a german shepherd mix.

Do you collect anything?
Books, lighthouses and sea shells.

Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)
My fav food is chinese. My fav snack is cookies and chocolate ~ gotta have chocolate but I am open to trying new things.

What are some of your favorite/least favorite tastes/flavors? (e.g. sweet, salty, chocolate, crunchy, smooth, tart, sour, spicy, thai, whatever - Help your pal get a feel for what kind of recipes you might like and/or never ever make.)
Hmm, not sure that I have any flavors I don't like. I am partial to all especially sweets and chocolate though I have my moments when something salty, nutty, tart would be really good. Again, I'm open to trying new things which is how I came to love curry foods.

What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)
A yarn winder would be nice but more practical would be small size needles in circs or dpns ~ I prefer birch or aluminium. I don't really have too much of anything yet. ;D

Are you on Ravelry? What's your handle?
Yes ~ I'm RockstarMom

Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
I'm a stay at home mom of 3 teens, married and love to volunteer. I've renewed my love of fiber to include yarns of all types and I'm loving my new found hobby more than I did when I first learned at 11yo. I'm looking forward to this new adventure and making new friends. ;D

What scents do you like/dislike?
Vanilla, amber, sunflowers, and fresh, clean scents. Plain Eucalyptus makes me sneeze ~ but mixed w/other scents like spearmint is lovely.

Do you prefer fall or Halloween or some other Autumn theme?
Fall is my favorite time of year ~ I'm a fall baby born in Nov. ;D

Just for fun - tell your favorite Halloween or Autumn related memory.

Hmm, there are alot of memories ~ I'll get back to you on this one.

What I've been doing....

Today, I've been a bum. Yes, you read that right. I have not done much of anything but sleep, knit and nothing else. Oh, I've read lots of email, blog posts and even joined a new KAL ~ more on that one later. I've been resting since I believe I have worn myself out this past week. I just visit Ravelry and found out that I still have a ways to go before my invite is sent. You can see below.

Found you!
You signed up on June 16, 2007
You are #9553 on the list.
791 people are ahead of you in line.
15813 people are behind you in line.
34% of the list has been invited so far

I started the new KAL with my Love2KnitDishcloth group called the "Toss n Roll" cloth. I've managed to finish over 1/2 of the cloth already and I've got about 15 more rows to go. Here is how it looks so far ~ this one is addictive and I've got plans to use up more scraps to make another:

I'm making progress on my knitted puffy which I now just call my special mesh scrunchy. ;D I've also been listing to "Morality of Beautiful Girls" and drinking lovely tea. The first one was "Spiced Black Chai" and then some Irish Breakfast all using my new "Tea for One" pot and cup set. ;D I really do like my gift, these are the things that make you smile when you aren't feeling 100%.

I'm off to finish my book and to drink my tea. Be blessed!

Considering Contentment

G.K. Chesterton:

“There are two ways to get enough. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.”

While visiting one of my favorite blogs, I found this wonderful quote that I believe really helps to understand how we should consider contentment. I desire a life of simplicity and I must allow myself to accept where I am; to be content and thankful with less. What a wonderful opportunity I have to live this, model for my children and watch the Lord do His part.

I'm very content at this moment, basking in the assurance that my needs are met according to His riches in Christ Jesus and its all because I choose to surrender and allow Him to be Lord in my life. Tomorrow I will be purging more of our things and we will give up 1 item for each new item we purchased today (today was Make it count ~ no tax day and many needed items were purchased). It will allow us to make room for what we have, use what we have and bless those who are in need.

Contentment ~ are you enjoying the peace of today?

Fun things....

Hello all ~ thought you'd like to know what else I got in the mail recently. Nope, its not yarn. ;D I received 2 more packages this week actually that I failed to mention. One was from my dishcloth swap and the other was from P&G. Yelp! my sampler package came in and I'm so happy. It has lovely goodies and coupons to boot.

I received a package of mini pringles, package of pringles select ~ sundried tomato, and a sample of pantene's shampoo for color treated hair. I thought it would be fun to try something new so I ordered this little sampler 4 wks ago. I'm sorry I can't tell you to run over and get yours because its over. But you can still sign up for free stuff at P&G, just go to their main website ~ www.pg.com/us and have fun. I signed up for the emails which is how I got this lovely little package.
Here is the Dishcloth Addicts Swap 2 package ~ mailing labels for me, 2 cloth patterns ~ apple & swan, a foohy pen and 2 dishcloths. Absolutely lovely, Thx Lynn.

Now back to the regularly scheduled broadcast...hmm I think I forgot where I was. Anywho here are the skeins I've chosen for the August KnK. I'm ready. Keep your fingers crossed that I finish lots of one skein projects.

Thats all for now!

One Skein Challenge

Are you ready?! Well, I’m getting there and I’m excited too. Our new KAL in a KAL is a One Skein Challenge with a twist. In order to win this month, you have to be the one to make the most one skein projects. Sounds easy right, but you only have 3 wks to get it done. Why you say? Because we aren’t getting started this week but next week and posting each week thereafter. Now did she make this one a true challenge or what. I’m up for it though and I even gotten some help from my friends. I was at our weekly knitting group mtg last night ~ Hi K-Bober’s ~ and I asked some of them for their opinion as I looked through the One Skein and One Skein Wonder books. I’m looking forward to making a few things that are not dishcloths. LOL It should be lots of fun to see which of us wins. I will be posting my yarn pics after I finish going thru the stash. Yes, you read that right ~ going thru the stash ~ this is Stashalong remember, no new yarn for this baby. ;) Plus if I get rid of stash by making gifts then I can buy more stash, right?!

I also received some help with my lace shawl and I started on it today. I am a bit concerned with the yarn because its so tiny and woolly ~ meaning its picks, but I love the way the pattern is turning out. I’m 3 rows from starting the actual lace pattern and I can’t wait. I had to switch stitch markers 3x because my metal ones were picking the fiber. Sk8Chick loan me one of her plastic ones and I will have to add some of these to my collection though I believe I received some in a swap but don’t know where I put them. LOL

Speaking of don’t know where I put things, I’ve been cleaning up around here and it feels good to find things you thought you lost or didn’t even know you owned. I’ve been working in the master bedroom because that’s where I store my stash. ;D Its coming along very nicely too. I’ve managed to sort all the yarn and place them in an order that will work well for now. I’ve got all the speciality, gift/present and sock yarn in one tote ~ all the yarns are in bags within the tote to protect them. I’ve placed all the acrylic and fun yarns in another and I had to put the cotton and baby yarns in separate boxes. I still have to figure out what to do with the frog pond bags and old ufo’s ~ they are not as many as they once were but still a bag of each is too much. I may box them up since I’m packing for our move. This will help with the main packing too because everything will already have been packed. ;D

Today, I will work on the books in my room ~ so many books, not enough space. We love books so there are books in every nook and cranny of our home and garage. I will be selling some of these books soon to make more room for us and more books. LOL I’ve some books for the sole purpose of selling and some for sell because we have finished with them or have multiple copies. I’m planning to get this all done so we can get back to school but the move and the upcoming fair will probably delay that some more. I’m not concerned, I’ve laid these cares at the feet of my Lord who has given me peace about it all. I was really stressing about not having a sparkling clean house, orderly kiddos and dog, doing summer school promptly at 9a and being all that I can be! This morning’s devotional and time spent outside pondering ~ I realized that I was doing what I was suppose to do and that the rest will take care of itself or be done in due time. I need to relax more and not be such a type A individual about everything. I’m not getting any younger and I’m not helping my life to be longer by worrying. So, it will all get done when needed, I will be at peace and knitting/crocheting to my heart’s content. I really am more content since I relaxed and began enjoying my life again. I thank my renewed passion in crafts for that and of course, my new friends ~ locally and in the blog-o-sphere. You guys are awesome.

Talk w/you all again soon.

~ at the homestead ~

sounds ~ Handel’s Water Music & Audio book ~ Fullcupboard of Life
smells ~ Spiced Cider wallflower
dinner ~ tuna and rice w/veggies homemade biscuits & hash browns ~ courtesy of the girls ;D
doing ~ playing yarn bingo, making a dishtowel and planning
thoughts ~ peaceful
